My first three days: Orientation and disorientation
Entrees on the run. Whisking plates of food through San Marco to a CNZ ‘potluck’ dinner.
The site of many dinners to come – kitchen in the apartment shared by the New Zealand Venue Attendants.
Piazza San Maro awaiting Kapa Haka on the 3rd June.
Caffe Florian in Piazza San Marco, which is the venue for the NZ opening breakfast.
Maria-Elena, a gorgeous Italian who works in the Fondazione Claudio Buziol. She is co-ordinating a sound work by Alto Lindsay which involves a parade and performance this coming Friday. She takes a quick break and sits in the breeze on the balcony which extends from Francis Upritchard’s exhibition space, overlooking the Grand Canal. The Foundation is overflowing with sartorially splendid people who facilitate various exhibitions, design projects and residencies. ‘Buziol’ will be the subject of an entire blog entry – another day.
The banner for ‘Save Yourself’ gets hung on the Grand Canal. The high saturated azzuro blue blasts out against the faded terracottas and pastel coloured facades of canal side buildings.
Ivan Anthony and Hannah Upritchard in the entrance and garden to Fondazione Buziol.
Simon and Julia, along with our fellow Italian attendants (Marzia and Anna) get briefed on exhibition maintenance by Heather Galbraith and Francis Upritchard in the lavish rooms at the Buziol.
New Zealand books on display in the New Zealand Room at La Maddalena.
Boxes of antipodes water stored at the church ready for the openings.
Judy Millar banners on the church of La Maddalena.
Judy Millar gets microphoned up for filming her virtual tour by Blue Bach Production.
Give away bags arrive after a battle over transportation and freight.
Simon Glaister and Alastair Carruthers in blue.
Briefing from Veronica Green on the schedule of events over the next week.
More New Zealanders arrive every day. Only a few hours after their arrival, Sarah Hopkinson and Harry Cundy from Auckland already look the part.
